Let the work add up.
Keep documents with records and bring the details together as you go.
I wanted a simpler way to keep our records in order. So I started building one.
A personal project.
A practical purpose.
Our short-term rental records were organized. Tax season still took too long.
Even with well-managed, carefully maintained spreadsheets, bringing everything together meant more time than I wanted to spend checking figures, finding supporting documents, and getting the year ready for review.
I wasn’t starting from a pile of ignored paperwork. I was already putting in the work. I wanted a tool that made that work go further.
StayTally began as a way to keep our income, expenses, receipts, and property records together. Something built around the day-to-day details of a short-term rental, with a clearer view of those details when tax season came around.
As it grew, I realized the same frustrations probably weren’t unique to me. Other owners might find it useful, too. What began as a personal project became something I wanted to share.
I believe owners should be able to keep accurate records without being tied to an expensive subscription. StayTally does not require an account or subscription. Your records belong with you, and you decide when to export, back them up, or share them.
My hope is that StayTally helps other owners spend less time preparing for tax season and, where it fits their needs, move away from subscriptions they no longer need. That means more of their time and money stays theirs.
StayTally can help organize information and read details from documents, but you still review the results. It does not replace your judgment or your accountant, and it does not file your taxes. The goal is to make good record keeping easier to maintain throughout the year.
Thanks for taking a look at something that started with our own records and spreadsheets.
